The Factory
This is the Guinness factory in Dublin, Ireland. I shot and processed it using HDR to add a heightened sense of drama to the scene. The idea behind the shot was to envision the industrial age, so when processing the image I tried to imagine how the industrial age may have seemed to people as these enormous factories sprung up around Europe and their whole world changed forever. I purposely avoided making the image black & white and went for the starkness of heightened colour and light reality, hoping to capture the visual sense of first human interaction with the scene. I hope you like it.

Constant History.
Found that the ghost characters in this shot reminded me of the constant that Christ Church Cathedral has been to that landscape of Dublin city and of all the people through time who have walked pass it.

Hidden Stories
Walking, I listen for the story of the landscape - the words unspoken. Their story touches the soul in a way indescribable, it is just enough to sense it.

Cloudscape
In the vast vault of the sky,
White clouds make riot of shapes,
While sunlight blazons and eye sleeps in vision.

Blue Star
Not all forests have trees. We must learn to see beyond the accepted to new horizons of perception and thinking.

Solitude of expression
It is in the midst of solitude that we can quieten the excessive chatter of the world and find solace in the quietness of our mind.

Sanctuary ~ Christ Church Cathedral
Churches are most definitely lit for God and not for photographers. With low light the ISO increases and it is a balancing act between exposure and noise but the available light is so warm and wonderful that it is worth the time and effort to try and capture it. I hope you like the photograph and when in Dublin take time to visit Christ Church Cathedral.

Industrial slice
Opening veins we bled the landscape in honour of our age
we screamed and screeched while wielding the bones of dead ancestors
aiming their blanched white calcium limbs into the rancid air
as the machines churned out ever more smoke and sickness
What sadness this humanity has taken to its breast.

Simplicity of the image
As with language, in its spoken or written form, the simpler the words used the more readily the meaning can be understood - I feel the same applies to photography and it is within this reduced simplicity of an image that we can discover more complex patterns within ourselves. As we remove the confusing elements through composition and framing we remove the layers that distract the eye and create a true visual statement easily grasped by the mind.

Music and processing.
I find music is very beneficial when I sit to process my images within my post production digital darkroom - I often play music in the background as I process the images as I find it aids in my concentration and also heightens my senses and takes me to another part of my brain that aids with my viewing of images and developing new visual connections within the photograph.
Why I shoot.
Photography for me is the moment when all the chatter and noise of the world is suspended, when I can float off as if in a trance purely consumed by the visual. It is in this moment that I feel the greatest sense of tranquillity within my reality of the world.
Photography for me is not to just capture the visual moment but also to feel this sense of this contentment. This is the reason I take photographs.
